          What is Focaccia?

Focaccia is a flat Italian bread made with olive oil and yeast and flavoured with herbs. Focaccia is an accompaniment bread it is used as a side to many meals or as sandwich bread. Focaccia may be served as an antipasto, appetizer or table bread.

Nutritional Value:-

100 grams contains 250 calories.
8 grams of fat, 36 grams of Carbohydrate, 9 grams of protein and 17% of Iron.

Ingredients:-

For Bread:-

  1. Flour, 800 grams
  2. Yeast, 50 grams
  3. Sugar, 10 grams
  4. Olive Oil, 70 grams
  5. Salt, 20 grams
  6. Improver, 5 grams
  7. Water, 400 ml

For Topping:-

  1. Tomatoes, 100 grams
  2. Olives, 100 grams
  3. Herbs, 10 grams
  4. Pesto, 10 grams
  5. Sea Salt, 10 grams
  6. Olive Oil, 10 grams

Method Of Cooking:-

  1. Mix all the ingredients in the dough mixer except the olive oil.
  2. Knead the dough for 5 minutes on slow speed or until the gluten has formed.
  3. Add the olive oil and knead again till a smooth dough is obtained.
  4. Keep the dough for proofing, knockback and rest again.
  5. Rolls out the dough to 1 cm thickness and keep for proofing.
  6. Meanwhile, roast the vegetables with herbs.
  7. Apply pesto on the bread and spread the roasted vegetables. Dip your fingers into olive oil and dig holes into the dough. Sprinkle with herbs and sea salt. Bake at 200°C for 15-20 minutes.

Remarks:-

  • First active the yeast if you are using the dry yeast dissolve in water and stir it. 
  • Properly knead your dough. The dough should be soft and stretchable.
  • Spread the dough properly in a baking tray and cover with a muslin cloth.
  • Rub the olive oil and sprinkle the herbs on the top of the dough.
  • Preheat your oven at 200°c for 30 minutes.
  • When your Focaccia is baked properly brush the butter on the top of the Focaccia.
